Asleep “Unpleasant Companion ” Review

I have to admit, since first beginning to listen to Asleep, they’ve easily become a new favorite. We talked briefly about the band here,  but it wasn’t until getting an opportunity to listen to their upcoming full length Unpleasant Companion that I really got a taste of what these Ohio natives have to offer.

Their sound, is rather indefinable. They say it is their long drives, good people, and real life experiences on which they draw from, and I believe it. At one moment the band has me tapping my foot in time to the beat, with tracks like “Drama Junkie” and “Deserted”  the next I am more serenely taking it all in with “Delirium Tremens,” drifting in and out of poignant moments, and calming verses.

For me, Asleep is a band which can easily cross genres, appealing to all the alternative and indie folks who frequent spots like Great Scott’s (Allston, MA) The Pill, or play down the street at O’Brien’s as well as cross over and appeal to the more  ‘mainstream’ lovers, eventually frequenting spots like the House Of Blues and The Paradise.

I highly recommend taking a listen. In fact, so much so, that you can check out some of the bands tracks below.
